Summer is fast approaching, with amazing weather, comes the kids being home. ALL.THE.TIME. With no school work to break up the days or to occupy them things can get a little cray cray. Entertaining kids outside can be difficult especially if they are easily distracted. I’ve compiled some of my favorite outdoor toys that will be a hit with the fam!
Getting them out of the house is one of the only ways to keep your sanity is to get those kids outside. Here are some of my favorite outdoor toys to keep my very overactive toddler busy throughout the day.

If your kid/s are anything like mine, then they are running around from the moment they wake up until the moment they are tucked into bed. I am constantly trying to find new ways to keep Cam occupied and entertained.
Recently, Cam has gotten REALLY interested in a few different things. This helps me out a lot because now I don’t have to really think about trying to entertain him. We have some of the items below, and what we don’t have, he has tried out & loved at friends’ homes.
Ride-On Toys
- Balance Bike – We have a Trek, given to us by a friend, but this Strider Balance Bike is a great alternative. The balance bike is the first step in learning to ride a bike. Once they master the balance bike, the need for training wheels vanishes!
- Electric Car – I actually won something similar during a raffle last summer and Cam is still trying to figure it out. I would actually recommend one that has the remote control option. This Mercedes-Benz G500 Car for Kids is perfect! It comes with a separate remote control for mom/dad to drive and then as they get older, they’ll have the control to drive.
- Tricycle – For younger children, try this Radio Flyer Scoot; the pedals fold in giving them the option to pedal or just use their feet Fred Flintstone style.
Sports Toys/Sets
- Tee Ball Set – One of Cam’s favorite things to take out of his toy bin is this Little Tikes Teeball Set. It’s taken us almost a year of him using it to actually stand properly & swing the bat at the actual balls but we got there.
- Basketball Set – This Little Tikes Basketball Hoop is perfect for indoor and outdoor play. It’s adjustable so it can grow with your child for a few years.
- Soccer/Hockey Net – Recently just purchased this hockey net/stick set for Cam, he loves to whack stuff toward the net so we’re working on his aim a bit. If hockey isn’t your thing, check out this Soccer Goal Set.
Toys
- Construction Trucks – what kid doesn’t LOVE to play in the dirt all day long? This set of 2 Tonka Construction Trucks are a perfect addition to any backyard. They are heavy duty so they’re perfect for rough & tough play.
- Bubbles – the easiest way to get a few minutes is to throw on a bubble machine. We have this Bubble Machine, it pumps out 500+ bubbles per minute
- Sprinkler – when you need to beat the heat, this Spinning Turtle Sprinkler is amazing! Your little one will love running through the water.
- Water/Sand Table Combo – getting this water/sand table combination is perfect for little learners and explorers. This is also small enough that you can even bring to the beach.
These outdoor toys are all amazing and great options to keep your kids active while having fun at the same time! If your little one is younger, check out my post on Outdoor Essentials. It lists out my favorite items for baby/young toddlers.
