Hello summertime! How's that makeup holding up? Melting off your face yet?
Here's how you can fix that!
The key to your look during the summer is less is more. You don’t want the cakey look or feeling on your face when the temps are hitting 90! I’ve scoured the internet to give you 10 tips on how to sweat proof and simplify your summer makeup routine.
Start with the right moisturizer
Starting out with a good base is the start to any makeup routine. During the summer months, it’s best to start with an oil free, hydrating moisturizer and if you do wear foundation go for another oil-free product. Using oil-free products helps your face have a natural glow instead of a greasy look.
Sunscreen, Sunscreen, Sunscreen!
Applying sunscreen under your makeup is a must any time of year. But especially in the summer months. Your face has more exposure to the sun during these months, so sunscreen is key. Reapplication can be tricky once you’ve already done your makeup but you can use a powdered sunscreen to help with that.

Primer. The perfect base coat.
Primers help smooth out texture, minimize fine lines and gives your makeup a smooth, even starting point. There are a TON of different types from literally every single company out there. Different types help with different problems. There are ones that minimize pores, help with redness, etc. My current favorite is the E.L.F Poreless Putty, I put a nice thin layer on my T-zone and my pores practically disappear.

Less is more — Especially in the heat.
During the summer heat, wearing layer upon layer of makeup is just not comfortable. Using less products on your face will definitely help you feel like your face isn’t melting off. To accomplish this, instead of a true foundation, try a tinted moisturizer or CC cream and spot conceal where ever you need a little extra coverage. Both of the below options are great because they each contain SPF so they can double as sunscreen.

Bronzer is Key
Adding bronzer to just the high points of your face, gives your face that natural, sun-kissed glow. Blending into the high points of your face, like forehead, cheekbones, chin and nose is where it’s at. Powder bronzer is easiest to apply and sheer enough that it can be buildable as well.

Skip the Powder Blush
To keep with the less is more motto, skip the powdery blush. Layering on a powder blush will start to make you look a tad bit cakey. Switch it out with a cream or a stain and use a beauty blender or your fingers to blend it out.

Skip the Highlighter
In the summer months, using highlighter is a little useless. If you’re out in the heat, most likely you’re face is already sweating giving off a nice little glow already. Adding a highlighter on top of that is just going to make you look sweatier and greasier.

Sheer Shades of Your Go-To’s
Summertime is not the season for those deep, rich colors. If you are most comfortable in those shades, try looking for a sheer or lighter versions of those colors. An added bonus of using sheer colors is that you can’t really over do them. So, they are really easy to transition from day to night looks.
Lose the Lipstick
Another go-to switch up during the summer months, is ditching the heavy, sticky lipstick. Using a lip stain or tinted chapstick is a great way to get some color on your lips without weighing them down.
The e.l.f. Monochromatic Stick mentioned above is a great multi use item. You can use it for your lips, cheeks and eyes making it a great versatile item in your makeup bag.
